“I make use of dynamic compositions and elements that remind people of technology in order to try to convey the feelings that I perceive as an active individual that has experimented with the change, the invention of the Internet.”

-Felipe Pantone

Your kinetic art style is unique and it is what sets you apart from many graffiti and contemporary artists. Can you please explain this technique and what message you hope to communicate through your work.

Thank you! I think we live in very exciting times in which technology plays a really important part. The Internet gathers and discloses information of the world immediately. The result of this is a very connected and quickly developing and changing world. I make use of dynamic compositions and elements that remind people of technology in order to try to convey the feelings that I perceive as an active individual that has experimented with the change, the invention of the Internet.

In your Portrait of an Artist film by Selina Miles, you say that you don’t think graffiti is really an art form. Can you explain this idea in more depth?

Graffiti writers don’t have artistic aspiration. Their motivation is to write their names as big, as many times, with more style than the rest. That’s why I say that modern graffiti is more rather a game than an art form. However, from a history of art point of view, graffiti is such a big movement with hundreds of thousands of active members painting all over the world for more than 45 years, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop any time soon. From this point of view, as a phenomenon, I understand that it has to be taken into account.

Is it true that you sometimes hide messages within your art? What kind of messages?

Some of my paintings include some QR codes that you can follow. As a visual artist, I’ve always been very jealous of other disciplines such as films. A film is a work of art that includes several disciplines such as literature, visual arts, music, etc. With the use of QR technology, I can include anything in my paintings.

You are fearless when it comes to experimenting with a variety of mediums. From spray paint to heavy use of technology, to 3-D sculpture, is there any medium you have not tried and would like to experiment with?

Thank you! I’d love to direct a movie one day.
